in Phoenix, AZ, VCD offers services to individuals who are Deaf and
Hard of Hearing to assist in their independence and access to community

Interpreting Services for the Deaf:
Services available for anyone to assist in communication, where signing
is the primary mode of communication. Interpreter services are
appropriate for: Medical care (routine or emergency); Legal matters
(consultations or court appearances); Job interviews/training;
Counseling and access to social services; Access to government
resources; Personal business (banking, etc.) VCD only provides
interpreters whose qualifications are documented by state rating or
national certification.
Employment Services:
For Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals looking for a job, VCD provides
a wide range of services and options including job seeking skills
training, job placement, counseling, supported employment, on-the-job
training and follow up. All job placements provide the necessary
supports for successful employment outcomes and are based on the Deaf
or Hard of Hearing individuals' desired goals.
Assistive Technology Center:
In response to the needs of the growing late-deafened population, VCD
has recently added a new set of services specifically tailored to
senior citizen and other late deafened individuals. At the Technology
Center, individuals may come for assistance by trained staff to learn
about and try out Assistive technology devices in a safe, non-sales
environment. If they desire, they may also obtain information about
where these devices can be purchased. Counseling and educational
services related to coping with hearing loss are also offered as is
training and follow up services for those individuals who have
purchased hearing aids or other Assistive technology.
Independent Living Services:
Deaf and hard of hearing individuals may receive information and
referral services, advocacy and/or Independent Living Skills services
which may include bus training, personal budgeting training,
communication development and other skills as needed. Specialized
services focusing on the concerns facing Deaf seniors and seniors
experiencing hearing loss later in life are available. |

Community
Outreach Program for the Deaf (COPD) - New Mexico
Services
include provision of support and assistance to people who are Deaf,

Interpreting Services:
This services provides access to community resources and information to
Deaf and DeafBlind individuals by translating between spoken language
and American Sign Language. Available 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
Employment Services:
Provides job seeking skills and job placement opportunities for Deaf
and DeafBlind people.
Case Management:
Assist families and individuals in obtaining and enhancing their
independent living skills and also in accessing appropriate community
resources to maintain level of independence.
Other:
Additional services offered by COPD-New Mexico include sign language
instruction, job-seekers Club and various workshops addressing the
needs and lifestyle of individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of
Hearing.

Community
Living Program (CLP):
Providing
services throughout Tucson, AZ, the CLP offers a variety of residential
programs and support services for individuals with multiple

Independent Living Skills (ILS):
Short term service and program for individuals living on their own who
require some additional assistance in specific living skill areas such
as budgeting, cooking, home maintenance, case management and
social/recreational activities.
Group Home Services:
Meeting the needs of long term care for individuals with developmental
and physical disabilities, group homes are licensed and monitored by
DES/DDD and provide supports to 4-6 individuals living together in one
home. Homes are integrated into regular community neighborhoods and
staffed 24 hours a day in order to meet the physical, social and home
support needs of the individuals served.
Apartment Supports:
Provides physical supports and assistance to individuals with physical
and developmental disabilities living in their own, or shared,
apartment settings. Staff hours and support vary depending upon need of
the individuals receiving services. Supports include staff hours for
social activities, skills training, cooking, cleaning and personal
assistance.
Medically at Risk Homes:
Long term care settings for individuals with developmental disabilities
and accompanying chronic medical care issues that require supervision
and intervention by licensed medical care staff. Services are provided
in community integrated homes that support 5 to 6 individuals in each
home. Personal care, home and community integration are services that
are also provided.
In-Home Supports:
Hourly services provided to individuals living in their own or parents'
homes that require additional assistance throughout their day in order
to maintain their chosen living arrangement. Staff provide in home
support in areas including cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene,
social/recreational activities and specific independent skill training.
